A pair of prescription safety glasses is created when a safety eyewear frame is combined with safety eyewear lenses. Safety frames marked with the "Z-87" designation meet safety eyewear standards. Safety lenses also have requirements they must achieve to pass government standards.

As a manufacturer of safety eyewear frames, Hudson Optical spectacles meet or exceed the American National Standards Institute Z-87 standards for protective eyewear. As a supplier of medical devices, Hudson Optical is also registered with the United States Food and Drug Administration. Some frequently asked questions:

Q: What is the difference between regular eyeglass frames and safety eyewear frames?

A: Safety eyewear frames have to meet ANSI standards. Hudson Optical frames are built to withstand a degree of impact from projectiles that normal glasses simply cannot handle. Our lens grooves are deeper, hinges stronger, and all of our frames have sideshields custom designed for a proper fit.

Q: How can your frames meet safety standards? They look too good to be safety frames.

A: That's the whole idea! Hudson Optical designs safety frames to look good and exceed standards so that people actually want to wear them. Since we own and operate our own manufacturing facility, we have the ability to constantly monitor and test our product. We make sure that our frames pass standards not just on an initial test sample, but on actual production runs. Unfortunately, some competitors do not design their safety eyewear or operate their own manufacturing plants. They rely on suppliers, sub-contractors, and selling agents for assurance.

Q: Should I be wearing safety eyewear at my job?

A: Over 1,000 workplace eye injuries occur every day. Please contact your company safety director or safety eyewear provider for a detailed look at the risk of eye injury at your workplace.
